Mason Koenig
Biography
Mason Koenig is a Canadian composer currently pursuing a Master’s in Composition from McGill University, studying with Christopher Paul Harman. Having begun his musical career as a jazz drummer, Koenig followed a natural progression into contemporary percussion and finally to composition. Before attending McGill, he completed a Bachelor’s Degree in composition and theory from the University of Victoria as a student of Dr. Dániel Péter Biró and Bill Linwood. He also has a diploma from Grant MacEwan College in jazz composition. Following his undergraduate degree, Koenig spent five months in residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts.
As a percussionist, Koenig has appeared with numerous ensembles in Canada including the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, Sonic Lab, LaSaM composer-performer collective, Vancouver New Music, and Aventa Ensemble.
