Romain Camiolo
Biography
Pianist and composer, Romain divides his artistic life between composing film music, concert music, and the interpretation and teaching of the piano. He discovered his passion for the film music at the release of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and its original soundtrack by John Williams. In 2013, driven by this passion and after his secondary studies, he entered the film composition class lead by Gilles Alonzo at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et Danse de Lyon. There he developed skills in orchestration, and a type of writing inspired by the symphonic film music tradition. He also develops a dreamlike sound universe, centered on the work of sound matter within the framework of experimental projects.
Very attached to the performing arts, Romain gives also an important place in his creative life on interdisciplinary projects, such as opera and especially film concerts. From 2014 to 2019, he collaborated with the Lumière Institute as part of its Lumière Festival: he regularly accompanies silent films on the piano, notably by Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Alfred Hitchcock, Raoul Walsh, Abel Gance ... Since 2019, as part of his doctorate at the University of Montreal, he devotes his research work to the challenges of composition for this show, particularly in contemporary approaches.
