Pytanie Półretoryczne (apropos poezji Jana Zycha) seeks to capture the affect of Zych's text. The piece is constantly modulating to distantly related harmonic regions, and the majority of the work is quite dense, with shifting meters and polyrhythms which constantly refer to the question posed in the text, i.e. ".in what metre does the cricket chirp, when he is sad." While the majority of the work flows together seamlessly there are disruptions of more rhythmically charged materials which seek to disrupt this flow. The work is laced with traces of late-romanticism, as the majority of the work is comprised of distantly related minor triads with added leading tones. The poetic objective of the work is to create a simultaneously meditative and tumultuous composition, allowing the listener to navigate these two realms of sound from their own perspective.
