Spanish Garland

Program note

This piece consists of 12 Spanish folk melodies: work songs, lullabies, songs for entertainment, religious songs. They come from several regions and most are quite ancient. The melodies are presented as is, without formal development, without modulation. I treated this material in a way that showcased its melodic character: there is systematic use of ornamentation and heterophony that almost gives the impression of true polyphony, but with no chords, no counterpoint.
