Excursions intérieures : second collaboration with ATMA
Paramirabo and ATMA Classique continue their collaboration with Excursions intérieures, a new recording dedicated to Quebec composer Jimmie LeBlanc. The ensemble, conducted by Jean-Michaël Lavoie and accompanied by mezzo-soprano Marie-Annick Béliveau, performs four compositions that explore the relationships between the body, language, and perception.
LeBlanc’s compositional style is rooted in a textural and sensory approach. The works engage in a dialogue with various sources: the commedia dell’arte, contemporary philosophy, and literature. The central piece, Excursions intérieures I: Désir de verre, sets a poem by Michaël Trahan to music and explores memory, the imagination, and external influences.
Paramirabo brings to these scores the precision of a performer dedicated to working with contemporary composers.
“Excursions Intérieures is the result of a long-standing collaboration with Paramirabo; our first project dates back to 2017, with my piece *Commedia della musica*, which I warmly dedicated to them. From the very beginning, our collaboration has been marked by enthusiasm and mutual respect, which undoubtedly explains the beautiful and vibrant bond that still unites us today—and which continues to grow here thanks to the generous involvement of mezzo-soprano Marie-Annick Béliveau and conductor Jean-Michaël Lavoie. As a composer, I can attest that working with artists and musicians who are so devoted, dedicated to their art, and passionately and authentically committed to the—often incredible!—adventure of contemporary music is an experience of unparalleled richness. The album *Excursions Intérieures* thus marks one of the most significant milestones on this path we are forging together.”
