As part of the McGill Conference: “Gestures, Words, Sounds”: The Creative Worlds of Cathy Berberian and Luciano Berio
Description
On the occasion of the 100th anniversaries of Luciano Berio and Pierre Boulez, Paramirabo joins forces with the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and McGill University to celebrate two pillars of 20th-century musical creation. This concert highlights the expressive richness of Berio’s vocal and instrumental writing, in close dialogue with the singular voice of Cathy Berberian, embodied here by Ghislaine Deschambault, through emblematic works such as Circles and Folk Songs. The poetic audacity of the Canadian premiere of Berberian’s Anatemas con varie azioni will underscore the extraordinary artistic complicity between the two creators.
In counterpoint, Boulez’s Dérive will offer an immersion into a crystalline, rigorously structured universe, carried by the remarkable presence of mezzo-soprano Ghislaine Deschambault. An evening tribute celebrating two great masters who redefined the boundaries of contemporary music.
