Julien-Robert is a multi-disciplinary artist who explores the relationships between sound and image. He creates audio-visual performances and installations enriched by his experiences throughout his musical journey. He began his studies in instrumental and electroacoustic composition before expanding his artistic expertise to include video creation and interactive devices. During the creation process, he pays particular attention to the staging of his works in order to devise the most complete and authentic experiences possible for the audience.  Currently, he is working in collaboration with Julien Compagne to combine music, video and technology, transforming the three elements into a new artistic form that is the foundation of their group Video Phase.

Julien-Robert has been commissioned by various well-known ensembles (SMCQEMC+, [iks], Magnitude6) for new works that have been performed at festivals and in concert series in North America, Europe and Asia. His creations have been awarded numerous prizes, including an Opus Price actual and electroacoustic music concert of the year,  first prize at the Sond’Ar-te electric ensemble Composition Competition, the Serge Garant Prize from the SOCAN foundation, and a 3rd prize at the Salvator Martirano Memorial Composition Award Competition. His projects are supported by the Conseil des arts de Montréal, the Conseil des Arts et Lettres du Québec, and the Canada Council for the arts.

His versatility has resulted in collaborations with distinguished film directors (Charles-Louis ThibaultJules SaulnierVladimir KanicLouis-Thomas PelletierPascale MarcotteYan Breuleux), choreographers (Marc Boivin, Véronique Gaudreau) and directors (Lou Arteau, Michel G. Barette, Magali Chouinard). He has composed the music for several dance, short film, and theatre performances presented in various festivals around the world.

In 2009, he completed a master’s degree in Mixed Composition at the Université de Montréal with Denis Gougeon and Jean Piché on a project of mixed music and video, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. He has participated in composition workshops to study with renowned composers such as Ana SokolovicYves DaoustAlexandre BurtonHans TutschkuNatasha BarrettPaul Rudy and Jean-François Laporte. In 2007, he received a bachelor’s degree in Mixed Composition from the Université de Montréal, where he studied with Denis Gougeon and Jean Piché, as well as Bret Battey and Peter Batchelor at De Monfort University (UK).
