Description
The Montreal ensemble Paramirabo and the French ensemble Variances based in Normandy seemed destined to meet in their enthusiasm for creation and their desire to celebrate pulsation as a vital element in a program.
Heartbeats, the pulse of the entire planet, a rhythm that, initially joyful, must now slow down under the weight of climate change and biodiversity collapse.
Echoing Steve Reich's hypnotic composition "Pulse" from 2015, Canadian Cassandra Miller, American Missy Mazzoli, and French Thierry Pécou turn their attention to the new challenges of the present and the future. Their scores reflect unique personalities but converge in their openness to pop or traditional music, their sensitivity to environmental issues, and their attraction to harmony, melodic lines, periodic, repetitive, and pulsating phenomena!
It is the pulse and interstellar impacts of the entire cosmos that seem to traverse the mineral harmonies of "Mémoires du miroir de quartz," a piano piece by Marc Patch that offers an unexpected breath to this program, presented as a world premiere.
Coproduction between Ensemble Variances & Paramirabo, co-presented with Le Vivier and Arte Musica.
With the support of the National Music Center, SACEM, SPEDIDAM, and ODIA Normandie / Normandy Office for Artistic Distribution and Information.
