Description
Pulse reflects a taste for dialogue with the wider world and a desire to connect music with contemporary issues.
Heartbeat, pulse rhythm… As a vital element, pulsation flows through this dreamlike program, born from the meeting of Thierry Pécou and his Ensemble Variances with the Montreal-based Ensemble Paramirabo. At the heart of the evening is Pulse, a recent, gentle and hypnotic work by Steve Reich. As a tribute to this great master of the minimalist movement, Thierry Pécou presents Byar, a piece directly inspired by gamelan, the Indonesian percussion orchestra. In response, Missy Mazzoli and Cassandra Miller unfold rich harmonic worlds, with lines that are at times jazzy, often meditative. This concert-meeting will also be an opportunity to include students from the École Normale de Musique, with the premiere of a work by a composition student.
