Andrea Young & Paramirabo - Kōrihirihi

Carte Blanche

Program

A concert that presents the voice as a site of transformation, exploring the space where singing and sound dissociate, and where text, electronics, and sculptural musical forms converge to create immersive and unpredictable listening experiences.

Andrea Young presents an evening devoted to her compositions for voice and electronics, performed by Ensemble Paramirabo. The program includes two earlier works revisited for the ensemble, a new piece composed especially for Paramirabo, as well as a work by composer Terri Hron.

Throughout the concert, electronics assume varied roles, ranging from reactive real-time processing to acousmatic sound. These approaches shape each work differently, at times extending the vocal gesture, at others situating it within an immersive sonic environment. The program as a whole explores a broad spectrum of electronic practices, in which technology may function as accompanist, mirror, environment, or autonomous musical voice.
